December 20 Update: native client, grammar, :look, idle timeouts
I have a working native client on OSX! In addition to the browser, Sword & Hammer is now playable with its own app. However, I've stopped at building for Windows and listing on Steam ($100). Given that there's a browser interface, is there any interest in a native client?
Much of my time this cycle went into continued work on grammar, particularly correct use of articles (the, a/an), capitalization, and pluralization ('x12 Coin' -> 'twelve coins'). I'm not a grammar expert, so it took a bit of learning and many iterations to get things right. I ported the plurization code from The Last Outpost to Go and contributed it back; it's now included in the tarball over there if you're interested. Here's a screenshot showing many of the new text updates:
:look is a flexible command that gives more detailed descriptions of creatures, items, and anything else in the environment. It now considers your equipment (items you are wearing) and nearby shopkeeper's inventory to help you consider potential purchases.
Idle player logout has been increased to 30 minutes, from 15. However if a player that logs in and never issues a command will be logged out after 3 minutes. A new AFK status is shown in :nearby and :who for players that have been idle for more than 3 minutes.
Finally, passwords remain optional, but player accounts without passwords will no longer be saved. To keep your account, set a password during account creation or using the :password command.
